BIOGRAPHY

Based in Chicago, IL and a native of Orlando, Florida, Ashley Eason is an operatic mezzo-soprano and voice professional whose experience encompasses a variety of styles including opera, chanson, oratorio, lieder, art song, and world music.

Ms. Eason is a classically-trained vocalist whose career demonstrates her diversity as a performer, educator, and arts professional. Ms. Eason is an active soloist, ensemble singer, and a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus based in Chicago, Illinois singing under the baton of Chorus Master Duain Wolfe and Music Director Riccardo Muti. The 2021-2022 season marks her fourth with the Grammy-winning organization whose highlights include Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi and Beethoven Symphony No. 9. Previous season highlights include Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, Aida by Verdi, Stabat Mater by Rossini, and many others. She has performed multiple seasons at the highly acclaimed Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois, where Chicago Symphony Orchestra maintains a summer residency. In addition to her performing career, Ms. Eason has enjoyed a career as a music educator providing individual and group voice lessons through her privately managed studio and with non-profit organizations across the Central Florida and Chicago area.

 

In 2017, Ms. Eason completed her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance with distinction at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She studied voice under the tutorship of master teacher and internationally acclaimed soprano Julia Faulkner, current Director of Vocal studies for the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Ms. Eason has been featured on several masterclasses throughout her career most notably with 2005 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, Soprano Nicole Cabell. She is a seasoned recitalist whose repertory encompasses a variety of styles including oratorio, chanson, lieder, art song, and world music. In addition to her recital work, Ms. Eason has performed a variety of operatic roles throughout her expanding career including Dido in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell (Chicago), Speranza in L’Orfeo by Monteverdi (Chicago), La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi by Puccini (Urbino, Italy), Charlotte in Werther by Massenet (Chicago), and others. As a Zwischenfach singer, Ms. Eason has also studied and performed numerous roles from the traditional soprano operatic repertory. She was the soprano II soloist in DePaul University’s presentation of Rossini’s Stabat Mater accompanied by DePaul Symphonic Orchestra and DePaul Symphonic Choir, and as an esteemed concert recitalist has been featured on numerous other concerts accompanied by the DePaul Baroque Chamber Ensemble, DePaul Symphonic Choir, and Chamber Choir, as well several different organizations in the midwestern and southeastern regions of the United States. Ms. Eason has over a decade of experience studying with many of the industry’s leading voice teachers, coaches, and conductors and continues to employ the fundamentals she’s learned across her evolving career. She was an Angeli Scholar for the Musica Nelle Marche Opera program in Urbino, Italy, where she spent a summer abroad studying voice, performing Italian opera, and undertaking Italian language study at Università degli Studi di Urbino. She has extensive experience in the study of Italian renaissance repertoire and worked closely through an independent study with musicologist Dr. Cathy Elias transcribing, setting text, and performing recently discovered works from the 16th century which were presented at the 2017 Renaissance Society of America Conference in Chicago, Illinois, and later at the Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference in Prague, Czech Republic.

 

Prior to her studies at DePaul University, Ms. Eason completed both her Master’s in Business Administration and Bachelor of Music with an outside field of business administration at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. During her time at Stetson University, Ms. Eason studied under the mentorship of award-winning mezzo-soprano Jane Christeson and internationally acclaimed dramatic soprano, Susan Neves (Metropolitan Opera). She toured annually with the Stetson University Concert Choir under the directorship of Dr. Timothy Peter whose highlights include performances at Alice Tully Hall, Lincon Center (New York, New York) as well as extensive touring of the east coast border and southeastern regions of the United States. She was a frequent recitalist at Stetson University and a mezzo soloist in their presentation of Handel’s Messiah featuring Stetson University’s Concert Choir, Choral Union ensemble, and Orchestra.

Ms. Eason’s teaching philosophies mirror those of her mentors by guiding her students to find their “true voice”, free of manipulations and manifestations, and by helping them to organically develop their natural instrument through a unique application of these techniques tailored for each individual student.
